四种不同关系

on有以下几个意思

（1）指最宽泛意义上的“关系”时，relation和relationship同义。

the relation/relationship between smoking and heart disease

吸烟和心脏病之间的关系

（2）亲戚。同义词：relative。

She was a distant relation of my wife.

她是我老婆的远房亲戚。

（3）复数relations一般用于国与国之间，或很大的群体之间，较为正式（用于人之间特指性关系）。同义词：communication。

relations between Iraq and the U.S. 美伊关系

（在不太正式的情况也可以写作the relation/relationship between Iraq and the U.S.）

relations between blacks and whites 黑人和白人的关系

onship除了普通“关系”，还可以指“亲密关系”，如不特别说明，一般指爱人关系。

When the relationship ended two months ago she said she wanted to die.

两个月前她失恋的时候简直想死。

subject & object

主体vs客体

：(n.)目标，物体，客体，宾语；（某情感或反应的）对象；(v.)反对。它的形容词形式为objective，意为“客观的，目标的”。objective还可以作名词，意为“目标，目的”。

t：(n.)主体，科目，主语；（批评、研究或调查的）对象(v.)使……隶属；使屈从于，通常与to连用。它的形容词形式为subjective，意为“主观的，个人的”。

sensitive & sensible

敏感和明智，艺术家与思考者

ive：敏感的、感觉的、易受影响的，tive一般表特性。

a sensitive topic 敏感话题

le：明智的、合乎情理的、通情达理的、意识到的、能感觉到的，able一般表能力。

a sensible young woman 明智的姑娘

sensible of his fault 意识到他的错误

special & specific

与众不同vs特别限定

l：特别的，强调特别、与众不同

a special friend 特殊朋友

ic：特定的，强调限制性

His specific problems got him into trouble.

他特有的问题使自己陷入麻烦。

一个指物，一个指人

：东西、材料、素材

Put that stuff over there.

把材料放在那儿。

que：技巧、技能、技术、技艺。更具体，指某项技术。

logy：科技（总称）、工业技术、工艺学。更抽象，指成系统的一种科技大类。

transfer & transmit

转移的是物体，发送的是信号

er：转移，调任，转让，侧重点是转移（某物）

He transferred the package from one hand to the other.

他把包裹从一只手换到另一只手。

I transferred from Rutgers to Tulane.

我从罗格斯大学调任到杜兰大学。

it：传输，传导，发射，侧重点是传送（信号）

Glass transmits light.

玻璃能传播光。
