【析句】主干结构是一个被动语句（legal learning has been viewed as... rather than...），in such institutions 作状语，从前文看是指Canadian universities。

【讲词】institution 在句中表示 "机构"，如higher education institutions（高等教育机构）。Institution 词义较多，还可以表示"创立，设立；制定；风俗，习惯，制度"。Giving presents on Christmas is an institution.（圣诞节送礼是一种风俗。）preserve 作动词表示"保存；保护"，如美国总统的誓词：I do solemnly swear that I will perform the duties of the President of the United States to the best of my ability and defend, protect and preserve the Constitution of the United States.（我谨庄严宣誓，我必竭尽全力执行合众国总统职务，恪守、维护和捍卫合众国宪法。）preserve 作名词时表示"蜜饯；禁区；保护物"。special preserve 意为"专门的工作"，如：She considers the arranging of flowers in the church to be her own preserve.（她认为在教堂中插花是她的专门工作。）
